Review: Y Spa at Wyboston Lakes

Y Spa and me

Y Spa and I have become very good friends in recent years. Since becoming pregnant with my first child, it has been my little bit of sanctuary from the mad world around me.

I’ve been there with two different baby bumps, on a hen do, with other frazzled NCT Mums, a girly weekend with my Mum and sister and a babymoon with my hubby! A few weeks ago I even visited on my own for a little peace and quiet for a few hours…

This particular visit was a bit of a treat – a night away from the kids with my other half plus a spa visit. Bliss.

Wyboston Lakes Hotel

Y Spa is within Wyboston Lakes Hotel on the Wyboston Lakes estate amidst 365 acres, just off the A1 about 35 minutes from Hitchin.

Wyboston Lakes Hotel has just undertaken a £1 million bedroom refurbishment and it shows.

We stayed in a Deluxe Room which in addition to a super king size bed, also boasts a Rainfall shower, Molton Brown toiletries, Espresso machine and a complimentary mini bar stocked with various alcoholic and soft beverages.

What impressed me most, however, was the level of customer service we received throughout our stay from every member of staff we encountered. In particular, the welcome we received from Claire at the Hotel reception made us feel instantly relaxed (after a slightly mad panic on leaving the house as it always is when leaving the little ones!)

We stayed on the Hideaway Spa Package which meant Dinner, Breakfast and our Spa Lunch were all including in the price. Dinner was served in the Waterfront Restaurant overlooking, er, the water… Although we only had a set menu to choose from, the food was delicious and the bar know how to serve an awesome G&T.

Breakfast the next morning was awesome too. I’m a BIG fan of hotel breakfasts and this one doesn’t disappoint. Strong, hot coffee, lots of fresh fruit and fresh and tasty cooked breakfast items from the buffet.

There is a fantastic Health & Leisure Club opposite the hotel, use of which is included with overnight stays. There’s a gym, lap pool and group classes on offer. I confess though this time we choose to catch up on sleep rather than make it there before our spa though. After dinner and breakfast, we probably should have made the time though! Ah well…

About Y Spa

With the Hideaway Spa Package we could choose to have our time in the spa on the afternoon of arrival or in the morning. On arriving at the Spa, we were met by Emma-Jane, Spa Director. Another star who, along with her team, couldn’t have been more welcoming, even managing to fit my husband and I in for last minute treatments.

Y Spa has a thermal spa experience consisting of two steam rooms, two saunas, mist showers, glacier showers and a frost wall. There’s an outdoor hydrotherapy pool surrounding by deckchairs with sofas under a gazebo arranged around a fireplace (complete with fire and blankets when it’s chilly!)

There are also 11 treatment rooms plus two relaxation areas complete with beds and blankets (including 3 water beds) as well as little pods to curl up in with a book.

As well as the Spa cafe, serving drinks (including the obligatory glass of Prosecco!) and light snacks, there is also a restaurant in the hotel where included meals are served.

The changing rooms are clean, modern and well maintained. On arrival you are allocated a locker complete with wristband entry, robe and slippers. The wristband also serves as your payment method at the cafe and restaurant.

I don’t always have a treatment when I visit Y Spa; the facilities on their own mean you can easily spend your 4 hour slot just relaxing. This time though, I had a 50 minute Elemis Superfood Facial and my husband had a 25 minute Hot Rocks Back Massage. I used to think such things were ridiculous luxuries, but actually life is hard work at times and it’s so rare we treat ourselves. And my goodness it was worth it!

Finally it was time to get changed and head back to reality. But not before a peaceful macchiato in the Spa Cafe, enjoying our last few moments of freedom…

I can’t wait to find an excuse to come back again.
